Phew! Finally time to come up for air. I’ve been busy. Too busy to tell you about the amazing dinner I had at The Publican last week. Let’s go over it now, shall we?
I’ve been to The Publican 3 times: twice for dinner and once for brunch. But last week, I went with a friend who is a personal chef (read: knows his shit when it comes to food) and had an entirely different experience. Here’s a few of the things we tried:
Duck heart bruschetta
The charcuterie plate, which included head cheese, pork pie and morteau sausage
Sanddabs
Fresh beet salad with aioli
Spicy pork rinds
Waffle with maple butter and berries
Berry crisp with vanilla ice cream
And beer. Lots of beer.
Normally, I never would have ordered most of the things, but I’m really glad we did. I’m not a food prude by any means, but head cheese isn’t something that normally stands out to me on a dinner menu. But I tried it all and liked most of it. My favorite was the sanddaps and the beet salad. My least favorite was the duck heart bruschetta. But overall, it was an awesome experience and I plan on ordering things that are out of my comfort zone more often.
You can’t say you don’t like something if you’ve never tried it.
